Spain win Euro 2008, Germany fall

It was a victory that Spain had been waiting for almost 44 years. Their long wait ended today as they lift the Euro 2008 Cup by defeating Germany 1-0 in a match that saw several close shaves as both teams gave their level best with top notch performances.
The last time Spain was in the final was in 1984, and the last time they won the Euro was in 1964 in home soil.
The lone goal of the match came in the 33rd minute, thanks to Fernando Torres who showed great skill, speed and his desperation to score a goal when it was really needed. Spain had two other chances where it missed the goal by a whisper. Although the German’s played equally well, they could never recover from Torres’s goal and went down fighting with competitive spirit. Their defence did look weak and this was apparent throughout the match.
The party starts for Spain today as they will be rejoicing throughout the night for a victory that they have been waiting for a very long time.
