India climb to second spot

India are now the official number two ODI team in the world after New Zealand took an unbeatable 2-0 lead against Australia.

The Men in Blue, who had have won nine successive ODI’s have left Australia behind to sit just behind South Africa in the ICC ODI rankings.

India have taken an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five match series against Sri Lanka and will sqaure off for the last game against the Enerald Islanders on Sunday.

The MS Dhoni led team began their journey to the top when they won the Commonwealth Bank Series Down Under last year.

Since then, they have managed to reach the final of a tri-series, featuring Pakistan and Bangladesh and the final of the STAR Cricket Asia Cup.

India won the ODI Series against Sri Lanka last Ausgust before coming to India to whitewash England 5-0.

South Africa have 4245 points from 34 matches with a rating of 125 while India have garnered 5487 points from 45 ODI’s, with a rating of 122.

AUstralia, who have slipped to number two after their second successive ODI series loss at home have 4241 points from 35 ODI’s, with a rating of 121.

New Zealand have gathered 3389 points from 29 games, with a rating of 117.

Pakistan, after their dismal performance are at number five followed by England, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Ireland and Kenya bring up the rear with numbers 11 and 12 respectively.
